Instructor: Master Gardener, Carol Giovacchini

What are native plants? Why should I grow native plants in my garden? Where do I even find native plants and how do I incorporate them into my garden? These are just some of the questions Master Gardener Carol will address during this Learn and Grow session at Shinzen Garden. Join us we explore plants native to the Central Valley and beyond.

Meet your instructor! Carol Giovacchini is a second-generation American and life-long Fresnan who grew up running through vineyards, playing in irrigation ditches, and catching insects. She graduated from CSU Fresno with a Master’s degree in Communicative Disorders and worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Valley Children’s Hospital for 26 years, focusing on pediatric brain injury rehabilitation. Carol came from a family who loved gardens and gardening; after enjoying the Fresno County Spring Garden Tours, she decided to become a Master Gardener. Now that she has retired, she enjoys working at the Garden of the Sun, teaching classes, learning how to propagate various plants, and most of all, enjoying her children and grandchildren. Carol especially loves singing in a local choir, reading murder mysteries, making her grandmother’s recipes, observing jumping spiders, working in her own garden and teaching her grandchildren to love and appreciate nature. She is hopeful that her grandkids will grow up to love gardening, bugs, and the San Francisco Giants.
